Using Internet today could be done right or the wrong way, like everything else. Even if you are, like me – a blogger who is not occupied with reaching the goals of huge traffic or if you are doing your post for the sake of own, very personal motives, it is possible to easily adjust your aspirations and to turn the time you are spending on-line into a weapon for making your efficiency stronger and more productive.

People used to say before– Go to bed early, early rise. I think that today is more appropriate to say: Do not watch so much of television, better you find something interesting on-line.
Everybody has their own niche and the field of interest. So the next time when you spend hours and hours by watching TV – you may want to ask yourself what is the bottom line.
There was a channel on cable network with very interesting shows, documentaries, mostly. It was very enjoyable to watch it for me,and many times I have found myself spending precious hours in front of the TV-screen. However, one of the reasons that contributed to my final decision to throw the TV out of my apartment was the interview that one of my friends had chanced to hear- given by the head chief of that very same documentary channel.
Among the other things, this guy said this: “The only thing that our company strives for is to keep the attention of our audience from the time of one commercial until the time of the next one. “
After hearing this, I finally took my decision to stop watching even this program which was one of the rare things that I was consuming on television. My TV set and DVD home theater are now in the closet. Next time when I wish to look for a good documentary I could easily find it on many video services on- line. True - the video quality is not so great but one more thing is more important – I am watching what I want and when I want and there are no endless commercials.
The benefits of such a decision showed up rapidly:
Enjoying more silence.
Being able to concentrate more.
Spending much more time reading.
Not feeling the sense of the regret by reason of the hours of wasted time.
Not having to worry about what is going to happen in the next episode of your favorite show.
Enjoying the more silence.
So if we go back to the Zen related concerns we could see that quality related time is being of the huge importance more than ever. On-line television is possible. But the real TV is the most scandalous invention of our time.
The troubles and disasters on the Balkans in nineties all started from TV-screens. Yes, it is possible today to start a war using a television. However, most of the people do not think about it that way. I do, because I have seen it happening in front of my eyes.
Whatever your niche might be it is not hard to understand what the thing is taking your precious time in the hugest bites.
It all boil down to the question of the output.
It is not hard to imagine the ocean of wasted time forever lost by watching idea less TV programs. You could use that hours better – to be a better writer or web- developer, to find more about a foreign language that is interesting you… Or to learn what does it mean HTML.
Only problem in being productive this way is in the fact that too much time spent in the front of the computer screen – is not really good for eyes. Maybe that’s something they should focus on. Inventing the eye-friendly computer screens.
As a result, that we could switch to the new age of On-Line Television.

Hello J.C., very nice painting you use on your header! It's nice to see you create your own.
I feel much the same way about TV, it really is detrimental to the critical thinker. It's become the ruler of our lives, and it really detaches people from their true purpose which is often forgotten because they are too busy watching it!
I've noticed many trends while blogging: one is that serious articles about really important ideas go largely ignored by people, which can be disheartening. It really reflects the ever growing narcissistic attitude prevalent in today's world.
Art, music, literature and many fine arts are so important for people to learn. I believe it makes us better human beings. This is a really great post!
Thanks so much Bobby for your comment. It is flattering to hear this form you because I consider your blog to be one of the best I have chance to found by now.
There are so many hidden dangers behind the tv screen - brainwashing, propaganda, stupefying, and so on.
After the troubles in Bosnia ceased I have stopped watching it for years, and now trow it out again. It is always a good decision to do so.
I am grad that there are bloggers like you, not afraid to speak up, that's certainly motivating.
You know this is so true. I have to say that not only is the marketing techniques used by television companies degrading but also the *quality* of shows. I mean look at things like Big Brother in Australia we are in something like the 6th or 7th series. I have to say the things that go on are just disgusting.
Mind you at the same time I do enjoy just relaxing in front of the idiot box so I don't think I could get rid of it anytime soon. But I do take my hat off to you.
Well done.
Stuart
